RAIN AND ROADS: THE TERRIFYING SEASON FOR RURAL CITIZENS

Rainfall these days has exposed the issue of bad roads in Gwallameji Student Village which has been and is being neglected by the government despite the fact that it is a residential area to the so-called ‘futures of tomorrow’ (students).

The issue of rainfall and roads has not been an issue nowadays but has become a norm. Due to the seasonal structure of the country, road construction is being neglected because of the, ‘it will just last 3-4 months and the water will dry again’ mentality.

Gwallameji has its own taste of bad roads for decades. The student dominated area is not a road of mud and trenches.

This system of governance towards lack of care to its citizens has become a lesser thing to worry about as the citizens are ‘use to it’.

The governor has spent his major duties in constructing major state and federal roads withing the state.

Some of these roads are the Sabon Kaura Bypass (Goodluck Johnathan Bypass), the double-lane Bauchi-Jos road construction, the federal lawcost construction, the Maiduguri-gombe road bypass, and so much other ongoing projects.

But the most significant roads used by the people in the rural and suburbs are of immensive importance as citizens tends to use it more than they use the major roads,

Students in Gwallameji now have to walk through muds and jumb potholes and trenches to get to school.

This neglect should be considered as it is the most vital aspect of livelihood in the rural and suburbs.
